Waiting in His Presence;
the Key to Freedom
by Brice Tabor
You split the earth with rivers; the mountains saw you and writhed.
Habakkuk 3:9-10
Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. Habakkuk 3:17-18
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
2 Corinthians 3:17
When I was younger, I didnt really understand Scriptures around the idea of, Waiting on the Lord. I thought that when I prayed the Lord was supposed to do what I ask when I wanted Him to. After all, if I was in trouble or need, wouldn't it make sense for Him to help me right then? I'm human though, and the flesh naturally doesn't like anything uncomfortable, and patience doesn't come naturally for me either.
However, as I've grown up a little and become a bit wiser, I've learned that just because the physical manifestation of my request hasn't happened yet doesn't mean that God isn't any less near. Rob Bell has a teaching called, Rain. To save us time, I'll get straight to the point of the story. The point is that some of the hardest most painful times in our lives can be some of the deepest most intimate times with God if we let them be.
When hard times come our way the devil will try to convince us that somehow, God is behind it and He is to blame. If we believe that lie, then our hearts will become hard towards Him, and we will grow distant. The very answer to our problem we run from.
This is why waiting in His presence is so vitally important. Habakkuk 3:9-10 says, "You split the earth with rivers; the mountains saw you and writhed." The word "writhed" means to shrink or to squirm in pain. The truth here is that
when we posture ourselves before the Lord and wait in His presence, the mountains in our lives will begin to shrink back and even squirm in pain! This truth really sets me free. Habakkuk goes on to say in 3:17-18 that no matter what the situations in life look like, he will rejoice and be joyful in God the Savior.
He knows the truth that if we wait in the wonderful presence of God and seek Him every day, then the hardships of life will begin to squirm and shrink back because that's what they do in the Presence of the Lord.
So, I've learned that waiting on the Lord doesn't mean we stand with our arms crossed, slanted eyebrows, and tapping one foot at the Lord. Waiting on the Lord means that we joyfully embrace His fellowship and presence during the hardest of times, because in His presence there is freedom. We wait on Him with faith and confidence that He is making the mountains in our lives shrink back and become as level ground. Because He works all things for the good of
those who love Him.
Take a second and think about an area of your life that you may be avoiding with God. Maybe you don't want to trust Him with a family situation. Maybe you have a difficult time trusting Him. Take some time and let the Light of His Face shine down on those areas. It may be uncomfortable, and He may show you some things that make you squirm. Just know that He is moving mountains in your life, and you will experience His freedom.
Our Purpose
The Worship Team of New Life Covenant Church exists to extend the reaches of God's Kingdom in the lives of Christs followers, both present and future. Using audio and visual resources, we facilitate an atmosphere for experiencing God's most holy Presence and unfathomable, immeasurable love. Through the song-led portion of our weekly service, we endeavor to set the stage for the arrival of God's Spirit and glory in the midst of His people.

We are excited that you are interested in being a part of the New Life Covenant Worship Team! Being on the worship team means much more than playing on Sunday mornings.
