Fasting the Right Way
Consecrate (dedicate) your life and time to the Lord.
It is important that you drink a lot of water at least 8 glasses per day (after 3 days it is better to drink water at room temperature).
Water will help your bodys detoxification.
Because eating is habitual, your stomach is on a schedule. You might say that we are addicted to food. Approximately by day 3 the gastric fluids produced by your stomach will begin to work on your stomach lining. This is a good thing for cleansing of your system but is also what is referred to as hunger pangs.
Your system is producing acid by habit usually whenever your regular time of eating is. Drinking water helps to flush the impurities out of your system (you may want to add lemon or pure cranberry juice to flavor your water).
Approximately by day 4 your body begins to search for food. Again, mainly this is being caused by habitual impulse of your body. You are retraining your body. You are beginning to put the flesh down, submitting it to your soul and spirit. It is used to being in control, when it yells for food it is used to being accommodated, usually immediately.
Also, you may notice that your tongue is awful. Your mouth is expelling toxins also. Brush your tongue when you brush your teeth. You may find that you need to brush more often to lessen bad breath.
Approximately around day 6 can be one of the hardest days. Your senses will really be responding. It is a day of temptation. You might be thinking this is good enough, just a little something wont hurt. Etc
Around 7-8 you might feel nauseated and/or light headed. This is from detoxification. Poisons are being removed from your body. Drink a lot of room temperature water. The hunger pains should begin to leave. But the purification of your body is really kicking in. This is great! You are moving toward victory.
Around day 8 to day 13 you will begin a renewing process will begin. Your body will begin a healing. The whites of your eyes might become what seems a little whiter or less red is evident. This is a good sign. Red or darkened whites signify dirty blood. Also by day 8 your body might begin to expel (detoxify) more garbage from your system through the pores. Your skin is a living organ. Your skin excretes poisons from your system, through sweating. In other words, Make sure you are bathing so you dont smell. You may notice by around the eighth day your skin and organs will begin to refresh because of the cleansing. Again, drink a lot of water to help this purification.
Also, days 8-13 your soul, mind, emotions and will, will begin to react. Make sure you are spending time in prayer! Keep your focus upon the Lord. Just as poisons are being expelled you will find poisons in your emotions, thinking and decisions are being worked on by the Holy Spirit. Use the Word of God. Speak the Word. Walk in love. Your dependence is upon the Lord. He is your strength. You are becoming more sensitized to the work of the Holy Spirit.
Just as you must keep your mouth and tongue cleaned, you will find that you must clean the words coming out of your mouth. Clean your mouth and speech with the word of God. Watch your mouth. The bible tells us that we eat of the fruit of our mouth. Watch the toxins, dont spit them on those around you. Get before the Lord. The enemy and our own flesh will try and trip you up. Dont get discouraged. Dont give up. God is doing a work within you, even if you arent seeing it yet. Keep going.
Day 14 you may notice that your energy is increased. This may seem strange, but your body is responding by using the energy it was using for digestion etc. to energize you. It is using your reserves for energy.
Your mind should begin to become clearer. Your physical, emotional and spiritual should begin to find energy and renewal.
Day 21 you might experience a somewhat strange phenomenon which allows you to continue on fasting and you will find it easy to go on for a longer time. Your body is completely submitted and waiting for you to dictate when and what you are eating.
You will find that by the time you enter into days 19-21 your spiritual sensitivity will greatly increase because your body is now quiet. These are wonderful times to spend with the Lord. You will notice more revelation with your Bible reading as well as a more clarity in hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit.
When you are breaking a fast you must be very careful. One rule of thumb is to give yourself half the length of the fast for reintroducing food back into your system, 9-11 days in this case. Give your system time to get back in line. Do not eat solid foods. Stay away from dairy products like milk and cheese.
-Gradually introduce unsweetened and diluted fruit juices into your system for a day or two.
-Next, vegetables that are easy to digest and clear broth -After a couple more days, introduce small amounts of cooked brown rice and oatmeal -Finally, begin to add beans, nuts and seeds -Avoid saturated fats and greasy foods
Before fasting carefully consider our personal health condition. People with heart problems, pregnant, ulcers, low blood pressure, diabetics, chronic fatigue, or cancer should not participate in fasting food. Always consult your physician first especially if there is any question.
